Michael BallantyneCEO, TOK Commercial Real Estate
What traits are most important to you when hiring for, or promoting individuals within, your company?
We believe that growth creates unique opportunities. When we are hiring or promoting, we seek individuals who possess a combination of skills and abilities that will not only contribute to the collective success of our clients and our company but also to the individual success of each employee. When we open offices in a new market or expand the scope of services that we deliver, we evaluate new hires or promotional candidates’ unique traits, including client-centricity, problem-solving capabilities, effective communication skills, innovative thinking, adaptability, leadership potential, and a strong commitment to teamwork. We highlight these traits in our company’s quarterly goals, and they are memorialized in our “Keys to Culture” position statement which outlines our commitment to 10 strategic cultural keys ranging from “Work Smart” to “Be Present” and “Leave it Better Than You Found It.”
What do you see as the positive impacts of our growth, as more and more people move to Idaho?
Idaho’s remarkable growth is not merely a numerical statistic; it’s a transformative force shaping the state’s future. As a commercial real estate executive, I am excited about the myriad opportunities and positive changes unfolding in our dynamic market. Growth for growth’s sake is not healthy. Growth that creates opportunity, for clients, our company, and the communities where we live and work is always our goal and is represented by many notable projects that are direct results of Idaho’s growth, including (in the Boise Valley) The Village at Meridian, Boise’s University of Idaho Law School campus, and the redevelopment of the former Idaho Transportation Department headquarters; (in the Magic Valley) Northbridge Junction, Gemini Business Park and Sun West Village; and in Eastern Idaho (The Broadway, Snake River Landing and Gateway Business Park). When Idaho’s growth is navigated with innovation, strategic insight, and a commitment to contributing to the continued prosperity of our communities, it benefits everyone. Our mission is to serve - clients, the community, and each other. Idaho’s growth should be nurtured as individuals and companies collectively commit to giving our time, talents, and resources to cultivate the state’s growth to ensure that our future offers even more opportunities for our people and our quality of life.
